What’s OEE made of?
All components have equal, directly proportional effect on OEE score. Availability = Measures downtime losses. It is the measure of machine’s uptime during the planned production hours. Performance = Calculates speed loss. How fast machine operates compared to its maximum speed. Quality = Finds out losses due to defects. Total number of defected parts to total parts manufactured.
OEE formula = Availability (Multiply) performance (multiply) Quality
High performance and Higher OEEs with predictive maintenance
| Depreciating asset life and low production output with low OEE | Near-zero product defects, low output High OEE |
|---|---|
❌ Machine breaks down frequently, affecting output. | ✅ Predicts & prevents downtime & failures. |
❌ Machine output is low, fluctuating, and undeterminable. | ✅ Better machine conditions & optimized performance more units per hour. |
❌ More time and energy go into fixing machine’s performance. | ✅ Conditional monitoring prevents wear & tear, long-term damage. |
❌ High defects & rework leading to material & money loss. | ✅ Near-zero defects and scrap due to automated quality management. |
❌ No room to monitor machine’s health, output, and ROI. | ✅ Real-time tracking tools and dashboards available. |

What is a good OEE score?
It’s shocking to notice the OEE levels of many companies dangling between 60 to 70%. But a good OEE score denoting high performance lies anywhere in between 80 to 90%.
While 100% OEE is impossible to sustain, an 85% OEE score is exceptional and it means that your machine is operating at ideal speed and efficiency, generating ideal load and low waste.
Ways to improve OEE with predictive maintenance
No more speed losses
Predictive maintenance helps maintain machine’s ideal cycle time, ensuring no speed loss & boosting OEE & throughput. Real-time tracking of machine’s efficiency happens during production hours and any impediment immediately gets addressed.
Notifies ahead of any malfunctioning
Predictive systems denote ahead any breakdowns or failures, helping the maintenance team with proactive care planning. OEE value is restored back to normal, and machine’s lifespan is extended too.
No more unnecessary downtime
Downtime is necessary but unplanned & excessive downtime affects machine’s output. With predictive insights, the team can optimize maintenance schedules, so that machine health & performance can go hand in hand.
Enhances product quality
Predictive maintenance alerts on time to keep machine conditions up and running in a way where precision and consistency is preserved. There will be satisfactory product quality levels, and so as the OEE score.
